Since Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 and above, there are several features those are language features – Speech, Message Reader and Dictionary. (Message Reader is available in Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 and above). But, once again, I think it’s only intended for Nokia.

Go to http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/mobile-dictionary and seek for your desired language. Every language pack can be translated into another. Don’t worry to download more than 2 languages, I even use 3: Bahasa Indonesia, English and Français.

How to register

All you have to do is go to http://mail.ovi.com and sign up for the Ovi Account. Then, follow the instructions, no other choice.

Verify Your Existing E-Mail or Your Phone Number (If Submitted)

Yea, once you add an information on them, you will get an e-mail or an SMS. Follow the link and your additional informations are verified.

Additional info for S60: Compatibility for Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson that run on Symbian S60 are unknown. Because every S60 device is equipped with a device information file in one of its ROM. If it’s hacked or changed, it’s still possible to use Ovi Contacts, but, it’s still unknown. Better use Nokia phones so far. I never found a non-Nokia phone run every Nokia-exclusive services.

Maemo

All Nokia Internet Tablets (not a phone) are run on Maemo.

PC Users

Fortunately, Nokia Beta Labs have a documentation about using Ovi Chat on the PC. Since Ovi Chat don’t have any PC Clients, it will use another compatible PC Clients. Here is the documentation:

Configuring Psi

To download Psi, go to: http://psi-im.org. To configure Psi to run on Ovi Contacts chat feature, do the following:

1. Open Psi.
2. Click the Psi symbol, and select Account Setup.
3. In the Jabber Accounts window, click Add.
4. In the Name field, enter a name for your account, for example, Ovi Contacts Chat feature.
5. Check that Register new account is not selected.
6. Click Add.
7. In the Jabber ID field, enter your Nokia account user name. (see picture)
8. Click the Connection tab.
9. Select all checkboxes, except ‘Probe legacy SSL port’.
10. In the Host field, enter chat.ovi.com.
11. In the Port field, enter 5223.
12. In the Encrypt connection drop-down menu, select Legacy SSL. (see picture)
13. Click Save.

Configuring Adium:
To download Adium, go to: http://www.adiumx.com. To configure Adium to run on Ovi Contacts chat feature, do the following:

1. Open Adium.
2. From the Adium menu, select Preferences.
3. Select Account preferences pane (should be the left-most tab).
4. Click the plus (+) button at the bottom left corner for adding a new account (select Jabber from the drop-down list).
5. In the username field, fill in your Nokia account. (see picture)
6. Open the Options tab, and configure the following details:

• Connect server: chat.ovi.com
• Port: 5223
• Force old-style SSL: select the box
• Require SSL/TLS: select the box (see picture)

7. Click OK.

Configuring Pidgin:

To download Pidgin, go to:http://www.pidgin.im. To configure Pidgin to run on Ovi Contacts chat feature, do the following:

1. Start Pidgin.
2. Select Add/Edit from Accounts menu.
3. Click Add from the Accounts dialog.
4. Fill the Add account window with following details: (see picture)

• Protocol: XMPP
• Username: your Nokia account (without @ovi.com)
• Domain: ovi.com
• Password: you may enter your password if you want to sign in automatically, but it is recommended that you leave it empty for security reasons
• Remember password: select the box if you want Pidgin to remember your password (you are not prompted to enter it each time you sign in, if you select this option)

5. Click Advanced tab, and configure the following details: (see picture)

• Require SSL/TLS: select the box
• Force old (port 5223) SSL: select the box
• Connect port: 5223
• Connect server: chat.ovi.com

6. Click Save.

The Doubt of Bandwidth, is it make your balance spent faster?

Hahahaha, every post that concerns into mobile service always included with how that service will spend your balance. You will doubt “ohh… my bill will increased a lot” or, “errr, my balance is 0, I have to refill it”. Okay, no doubt about that. This service is as light as eBuddy. Don’t worry.

Okay, this time I will compare all Facebook interfaces, but on the direct web, not with a special client application like Facebook for iPhone, Facebook for Windows Mobile, Facebook for Sony Ericsson, etc.

For Personal Computers:

The usual Facebook Web Interface (http://www.facebook.com)Yea, since the last change on this homepage yesterday, this facebook new layout is very annoying. So, unwanted thing appears a lot. :( Nothing explained more for this interface, you’ll already know about this.

The Facebook Lite Interface (http://lite.facebook.com)

This Facebook is for slow connection internet, but still want the full functionality of Facebook. All the thing is the reduced JavaScript from full interface so that it can load faster. The Application function is unknown and there is no chat feature. All you have to do to get chat is install Mobile Java Emulator and run e-Buddy on it. :)

For Mobile Phone

Facebook Mobile (http://m.facebook.com)No doubt, but it’s not too good. Only provided with text in order to reduce bandwidth. :)

Facebook Touch (http://touch.facebook.com)

This facebook is not good for Opera Mini (but if Opera Mini can emulate JavaScript, it’s still good). Facebook touch will use only one page and turn it on all with JavaScript. If you use Opera Mini, it will wait for JavaScript for 2 seconds and bring the whole page to your phone. So, you’ll get your data packet cost higher.

Oh no, when I log on to Facebook approximately an hour ago and see the homepage, I said, “Oh fuck, this is really messy. What on earth the unwanted thing like joining group, tagging photos and confirming friends are added to the homepage?”

So, this is not the first time Facebook had a messy changes, but this is the worst yet. A positive thing that happen on Facebook changes was happened on September 2008, when the layout is streamlined, not showed the messy big Facebook logo on the left. But, when about March 2009, when Facebook changed the layout once more, It’s bad, no one wants the change. And now, so on, it’s worst. What the hell is this? So Bandwidth Killer, more not friendly on the old computers.

So, although I’m categorized as stalker on Facebook (I’m stalking so many friends, from authorized by the person or not authorized), I think it’s very messy. If I wanna revert, I will say YES!

Have you ever bought a new sophisticated phone like BlackBerry or Nokia? Have you ever counterfeited? That phone is Chinese, a Chinese-generic style phone.

If you know and you were not counterfeited, that’s okay. You can torture the seller with your own word, lol. But, if you were counterfeited, ohh, that’s suck. You will not got your phone as you want in your desired form, ROFTL. I’m interested on this topic because there was my classmate on campus said that there are fake BlackBerries sold.

Okay, although there are so many legal Chinese phone in my country, Indonesia, there are also fake phones with the identical form or just weird form.

Most Chinese icons uses some kind of weird old phone style, not a minimalist.

Font

Most dominant phone vendor will use their proprietary font rather than the Serif style or Times style. Recent Chinese phones use Serif style, like the MS Sans Serif.

For your info: Recent Nokia phones and some S60 Phones are using the Nokia Sans font, Recent Sony Ericsson phones are using Trebuchet style (previously Serif Style) or Blackberry also use Trebuchet style (previously Serif Style). Those dominant vendors will use their font anti-aliased.

Java MIDP 2.0 Compatibility and Remote Application Detection

Test that phone to play 3D Java Games, most Chinese phones will not run Java MIDP 2.0 application, including Opera Mini 4 and above.

Check your phone to http://www.operamini.com with the phone internal browser and check what it detects, it will detect Chinese phone as Generic and will decide your phone installed up to Opera Mini 3 Basic.

Battery

Chinese phone batteries label ONLY PRINTED WITH CHINESE!

Engrish Manual

Engrish is the false English omitted by mostly Asian. If you are in the English-speaking country or able to use English perfectly, check the spelling or grammatical error on the manual. Chinese products’ fatal error are the Engrish found on the manual, perhaps.

Now, In the Microsoft Office Word 2010, the text can be added effects. Just that, there is a button on the left side of superscript.

When I went hometown, when the GPRS network is minimum, I had downloaded the Opera Mini 4.2 for my brother’s phone with Indosat Matrix. The connection is good enough, but one time I’ve shocked when the web page said this, “Try the new Opera Mini 5 Beta”. Wow, I’m curious when knowing this and I quickly picked up my phone that is powered with Telkomsel and already paid data plan for 35 MB in Telkomsel Flash for Rp. 20.000 (approx. US$ 2) and I downloaded it. Then, I tried it for visiting Kaskus Mobile. You know what I got? I got there is a hot thread for this software here (in Bahasa Indonesia). But, I will review it by myself and the review is ABSOLUTELY NOT a repost from any other sites, except I said it!

That title on this post is nonsense if I didn’t post the meaning. Okay, this is my total review.

Please note that the * or # on the middle of softkeys are exist because I have no pen key for taking screenshot. So I use * + # to take screenshots. My phone is Nokia 6120 classic and using Screenshots for taking screenshots. All screenshots are taken while I was in my Hometown in ‘Mudik’ Season 2009. There is no 3G or even HSDPA in my hometown, because it’s still a countryside.

Speed Dial is originally created from Opera Mini since its initial release. This feature was brought to the desktop version with thumbnail. Now, this feature is brought back to the mobile with same functionality with the desktop version. Very Cool!

When you press Menu, you will see that Opera Mini 5 Beta is close to the desktop version, .

Assigning Speed Dial can be performed by simply click the empty slot or by performing Opera Mini’s Right Click, Tap n’ Hold on Touch or 1 on Keypad. Suggestions are in impressive view, like iPhone.

 Tabbed Browsing can be seen on the top. Virtual Mouse is also activated by default and there is no option to deactivate it.

Search is better, but minus provider management. You can’t add more search provider.

 Settings’ interface is just like iPhone.

Inline Edit is now improved. Not only in the Address Bar, but also in whole software. This build is not including Enter character, I hope it will be added in the final release. I’ve already submitted a report on it. You can deactivate it in Settings.

Sorry, I didn’t tested Password Manager feature. This feature is still doubtful to be used by me. I never use any Password Manager feature on all internet browser software, Desktop and Mobile.

The thing that I loved most:

The effects are smooth on my phone. As you know that most Nokia phones will not run Java as smooth as Sony Ericsson does.

Some People are Afraid with More Bandwidth Usage:

Just like eBuddy since version 0.99, most people are afraid with the bandwidth usage. Although that's not proven according to my comparison with eBuddy 0.94, this still doubtful for some person. This doubt is also come when Opera Mini 5 Beta is coming. Some person will afraid with the visual effects and the new features. Okay, let me explain you. Opera Mini 5 Beta still use the same method of compressing with the previous versions. You still can save up to 90% bandwidth to surf the internet with this powerful software.

iPhone OS Version Trivia

Opera Mini had been developed for iPhone OS, but it never launched because Apple won’t let it released for iPhone OS. It will be harmful for its web browser, Safari for iPhone OS.
